Research
All graduate students enrolled in the program must complete two independent research projects to complete the degree requirements for the Ph.D.: the master's thesis and the dissertation.
In addition to completing his/her own research projects, students are strongly encouraged to contribute to the ongoing research of faculty members by joining existing research teams.
Once enrolled in the program students begin immediately on their master's theses.
The topic must be approved by the student's major research advisor.
The thesis should extend the research area of a senior faculty member and should reflect the student's previous research background and interests.
Students must complete the thesis before the second semester of their third year to avoid delaying progress in the program.

The dissertation is the second research requirement for the Ph.D. in psychology. It is quite similar to the master's thesis, only the dissertation must represent an original piece of work. It may however, be a continuation of the thesis research.
